Garrett Gruener
Co-founder and Director, Alta Partners
Garrett is a co-founder of Alta Partners, and was also a Partner at Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co., which he joined in 1992. He has more than two decades of experience in the fields of software development, systems engineering and corporate development. In 1982, he founded Virtual Microsystems, a successful communications software company that was later merged with a larger corporation. Garrett also founded Ask Jeeves, a leading Internet search engine. Garrett specializes in information technology and is on the boards of directors of several companies, including Ask Jeeves and Nanōmix. He earned a Masters Degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a Bachelor of Science from the University of California, San Diego, both in Political Science with a focus on technology policy. |

Dr. Marvin Cohen
Founder, Nanōmix, Inc.
Professor Cohen is a preeminent figure in the field of theoretical condensed matter physics. He is a founding scientist of Nanōmix Inc. and also serves as a Senior Scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the recipient of numerous scientific awards, including the National Medal of Science (2002) and the Foresight Institute Feynman Prize (2003). |

Michael A. Janse
Executive Vice President / Managing Director, Harris & Harris Group
Prior to joining Harris & Harris Group, Mr. Janse was a Principal at ARCH Venture Partners in the firm's Chicago office, focusing on nanotechnology, semiconductors and advanced materials technologies. His role included a particular focus on technologies emanating from universities, research labs and national labs. Prior to ARCH, Mr. Janse worked in Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector as a process engineer, and later marketed semiconductor components to manufacturers of personal computers and networking products. He holds an M.B.A. from The University of Chicago, and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University.

Gregory Schiffman
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Dendreon Corporation.
Gregory Schiffman is the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Dendreon Corporation. Previously he was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Affymetrix. Before that Mr. Schiffman was the Vice President Controller at Applied BioSystems and managed their global financial operations, and he headed up a variety of global assignments at Hewlett Packard including international finance projects in Europe and Asia and a manufacturing operation in the US. He also worked for IBM in several financial positions.
In January 2004, Mr. Schiffman became a director of Xenogen Corporation, a leading biotechnology company offering an integrated suite of biophotonic real-time in vivo imaging and transgenic technologies. Mr. Schiffman received an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. |

Al Schuele
General Partner, Sevin Rosen Funds
Al, a high-tech industry veteran of over 30 years, joined Sevin Rosen Funds in 2000 and now heads up the firm's ventures in Austin's dynamic entrepreneurial community. He has held executive and sales positions in several semiconductor companies including Benchmarq, Crystal, Cypress, and Mostek. Al has played key roles in major mergers and acquisitions and has worked extensively in Asian markets. Before joining SRF, Al was CEO of Benchmarq Microelectronics, managing the company through the turbulent Asian financial crisis before negotiating a merger with Unitrode Corporation, where he then served as president and COO.
At SRF, he focuses on opportunities in the semiconductor, telecommunications, and nanotechnology arenas, working with companies such as Ceterus, D2Audio, and Nanōmix.
Despite an impressive track record in high-tech sales and management, Al says the experience most valuable to his role as venture capitalist came while he was a U.S. Marine Corps attack pilot. "Being shot at and missed is one of the most character-building experiences you can imagine," he says. "Combat taught me a lot about how to succeed in tough environments. These military experiences, coupled with 32 years of corporate experiences, have served as an excellent foundation for advising entrepreneurs on how to turn their emerging technologies into winning companies." |

Guy Sella, Venture Partner, Star Ventures
Mr. Sella served with great distinction in the Israeli Defense Force for 14 years. He began his career with the Israeli Defense Force in 1982, as a combat fighter of an elite Special Operations Unit of the Intelligence Corps. Subsequently, Mr. Sella moved to the Technological Unit of the Department of Military Intelligence and ended up commanding this unit from 2001 to 2002. During this service, he supervised over 1500 people, managed a budget of $150 million and guided strategy and R&D plans. In addition, he launched the highly sophisticated Cyber Division of the IDF. In recognition of Mr. Sella's exceptional work in this field, he received the most revered Israel Defense Prize. Mr. Sella was honorably discharged as Lieutenant Colonel in 2002.
In his next role, Mr. Sella served as the Director of Technology for the Israeli National Security Council and the Secretary for the National Committee for Cyber Protection. He was also an active member of the Counter Terrorism Bureau. In this position, Mr. Sella managed and coordinated all the activities between Israel and the US Dept. of Homeland Security. In addition, he participated in projects with the US Department of Defense's DARPA, and the Technical Support Working Group (TSWG). These activities resulted in many personal/professional relationships with members of the security communities of both countries.
Among his business initiatives, Mr. Sella founded an engineering firm which developed specialized prototypes. He also worked on the development of technological innovations for several leading Israeli companies. Currently, Mr. Sella is utilizing his vast resources to help create and grow companies as a Venture Partner at Star Ventures.
Guy received his B.Sc. in Management and Production Engineering from the Technion Israel Institute of Technology where he also had post graduate studies in Mechanical Engineering and Physics. |

Warren serves as general counsel to many clients and their management and boards of directors, helping to shape and execute their business, acquisitions and liquidity strategies, and advising them on day-to-day legal, corporate, regulatory and other strategic issues. |
